🌿 Designing the Dream: How Ben Stout of Mainely Outdoor Living Helped Bring Ripple Retreat landscape vision to Life

At Ripple Retreat, we believe healing begins in nature. That’s why when it came time to design our landscape, we knew we needed someone who could truly understand the vision—not just draw it.

Meet Ben Stout, founder of Mainely Outdoor Living. With over 25 years of experience and a passion for creating meaningful outdoor spaces, Ben helped us transform our ideas into a visual story—one that inspires connection, renewal, and community.

Through a thoughtful design process and stunning 3D renderings, Ben brought the dream of Ripple Retreat into clearer focus. These visuals have become powerful tools in our fundraising efforts as we work toward opening in April 2027.

“This project inspired me. It’s about something bigger than business. I hope to do more like it.” — Ben Stout

🌱 How the Collaboration Began

Ben first connected with the founder of Ripple Retreat through a local BNI networking group. After hearing the vision for a sober, nature-based retreat space, he was immediately drawn in.

“Visiting the land, I knew quickly I wanted to be involved. It felt magical.”

✨ Designing a Natural, Yet Purposeful Space

The design goals were clear: create a space for diverse events like weddings, yoga, swimming, meditation, and quiet connection—all rooted in nature.

Ben’s approach? Keep it as organic as possible. Instead of over-curated landscaping, he focused on guiding people through the natural landscape with intention.

“You’ll walk through meadows, orchards, and woodland paths that connect to meaningful spaces like the stage, vendor areas, and yoga lawn—all while keeping the raw beauty of the land intact.”

One of the most striking elements? A glass-roofed, elevated pool with bathrooms and a spa underneath, integrated with the existing barn structure. It will serve as a community hub for swim lessons and relaxation—something rarely seen outside of luxury resorts.

“We’re bringing that high-end feel to a space with heart.”

🎥 From Vision to Reality: Why Renderings Matter

Words can only go so far. Ben’s detailed 3D renderings—featuring trees, light, textures, and people—bring the retreat to life for supporters, donors, and community partners.

Many people can’t visualize a 2D plan. These renderings show what it feels like to be there.”

They’ve become essential tools for Ripple Retreat’s outreach and funding, helping future visitors, collaborators and strategic partners envision the potential.

🛠️ Ben’s Process at Mainely Outdoor Living

Ben’s work goes far beyond beautiful plans. At Mainely Outdoor Living, his focus is on creating outdoor spaces that reflect the lives and dreams of his clients. His process includes:

  • Deep listening to understand lifestyle and goals
  • Dual concept plans—one based on client input, one with his creative spin
  • A collaborative final design that blends both
  • Support throughout the build process, including contractor coordination and project management

“People invest so much in these spaces. The experience should be exciting and enjoyable.”

Ben typically works on high-end residential projects across New England—and sometimes beyond—designing pools, outdoor kitchens, patios, and full-property retreats.

🤝 A Collaboration That Meant More

For Ben, this project wasn’t just another job—it was an opportunity to make an impact.

“This retreat is about bringing people together, without needing alcohol, and creating space to reconnect. That’s something I’m proud to support.”
